I attended Canoe to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and we were not disappointed. This place lived up to every single expectation and then some. It may have helped that we had a friend working there at the time, but we were treated like royalty. Served by multiple servers, each an expert in their own respect, each plate was accompanied by a full explanation of the concept and ingredients. The decor is understated but modern and elegant. It was an expensive affair ($250 for two people, 1 beer and 1 glass of wine included) it was well worth it and I will definitely be back!

What can I say? You get what you pay for.

Dinner for two at Canoe set me back $250.

Yeah, I spent a lot of money, but hell yeah, the food and ambience was that good.

Everything is perfect, but perfection comes with a price.

The first time I dined there, the menu had no prices. It scared the crap out of me. I had no idea what the meal was going to cost me, and I felt too embarrassed to ask prices from the waiter. Basically, if you were dining there, you should be able to afford anything they charged - yikes.

Fortunately, they stopped that a long time ago. Now you know that Pork & Beans will only set you back $38.

This is definitely Oliver & Bonacini's flagship restaurant.

Where else can you get caribou meat in Toronto?

I've never tried their Amuse Bouche, but would love to read someone's review on it.

Eight of us went to dinner at Canoe on Monday the 9th.
The service and attention to detail was fabulous from start to finish. All staff was polite and welcoming, making us feeling like guests in a home and not a customer in a commercial establishment.

We had a variety of appetizers and entrees and each course was delivered at the same time so no one was sitting and waiting for their food while others ate. All of the meals were superior, cooked properly and flavourful.

Go, you will not be disappointed.

I've been very excited and anxious all day long because it was my bday and i knew my boyfriend prepared this elaborate plan for the whole afternoon for me. Of course being the curious person as i am this waiting tension was adding on my frustration and on top of that not knowing what to wear was driving me bolunkas.

It's 3pm and Ray comes to pick me up. Thank you jennifer.n49.ca for letting me know to dress sexy cuz i went immediately and bought a new dress for this occasion ;-).

We get home at 3:45, quickly get ready, shower, dress, makeup jewelry, hair, that didn't work, put hair appart, another attempt .. quickly quickly ... the pressure .. oh the pressure, only 5 min left before taxi gets here, hair still not wokring, oh screw it put it in ponytail, perfume ... and at 4:30 taxi arrives. And at 4:40 starts raining. lol

So we arrive to downtown in the financial district .. get out of taxi, i still have no clue whats going on. Getting into the TD building's elevator all sorts of thoughts are crossing my head till we hit the 54th floor. Elevator doors open and we walk into the restaurant .. AAAAAH ... now it rings the bell. While back i mentioned i never been to canoe and always heard good things about it.

So here we are approaching the hostess as she welcomes us with huge smile and a question "reservation for 2?" yes pelase for ray. "Let me see" says the hostess as her face lights up with words "oh so you have plannes after the dinner right? well lets get you started quickly" ray's eyes pop out at her but too late now i am onto figuring out what plans we have after.

We get seated and a waiter brings us our menus. Trying to make a conversation he starts "so i hear you guys are going to a show after the dinner .. how nice". I burst in laugh. LOLOL.. poor ray he is devastated cuz now only thing left of the surprise is for meme to figure out what show. And i wsn't guessing right so ray still had hopes.

We order some drinks and as another waitress comes to take our food order, she also wants to make a conversation so she starts "so i hear you guys are going to the cirque dusollei .. i loooove the cirque dusollei, they are absolutely fantaaastic" heheheh .. at this point ray just gives up and has to laugh himself. And i can finally relax and start enjoying this evening & dinner from the birds perspective cuz now i know what's ahead of me so my enxiety melts away.

We both ordered the steak, it came in a large bowl-like plate. The steak with a cap placed right in the centre on top of a bed of mixed mushrooms and 2 potatos cut in shape of a brick. Red wine sauce reduction and truffle (i think) made me completely forget about the missing bernaise sauce. Scrumptiouss. All of it. I almost licked the plate clean - well not true i left quite a bit of the mushrooms, it was just way too many for me.

Followed by a cappucino wich came along with a box of chocolate pieces (the chocolate covered orage candy was expecially delishious) was the perfect sweet ending to this amazing dinner cuz we had to hurry to the next adventure.

Relaxed with great food and a great buzz (from the wine) overlooking skyline of toronto with my love sitting next to me I competely forgot to take pictures of the food ... but I sure can't wait till we have another special dinner like that.
